Pietr, Dutch "tjotter”
Pietr is a working sailboat, called tjotter, built in the vicinity of Amsterdam in 1965. It is the typical boat used on the Dutch canals. These boats ensured the sustainability of villages. Thanks to its flat bottom it represents a shallow draft (45cm) and will not run aground, even when filled with goods, on the shallow canals. The two “fins” on each side stop the boat from drifting. The one we show here is rigged for sailing. In the Netherlands, just as in England and France, the working boats were often converted into leisure boats.
