Amiral III
Amiral III, built in 1979, is an Adour barge, assuring the transport of people and goods along the river called Adour, upstream of Bayonne. The smallest barges are a few meters long while the biggest can be up to 100 metre long. The hull has been assembled without using nails. The bow and stern are grafted onto the central section by means of figures depicting the letter « Y ». This assembly technique is explained by its origins: the first barges were monoxyl, entirely fashioned from the mass of a tree, like the African pirogues.
