The Curragh
The Curragh, traditional vessel of the Irish West coast, resembles the Coracles, but is designed for the high seas. A light skeleton was originally covered by skin and nowadays by tarred canvas. Depending on its size it can carry 2 or 3 people. It is steered with oars, by two or three rowers. Its length varies between 4 to 7 m, its width between 1 and 1.50 m. It can carry up to 2 tons! The traditional construction has been passed down from father to son for centuries. The model you are seeing was built in 1982 in Moorstown.
