Coracles
These small boats are called Coracles. Heir to a thousand-year-old tradition of boats made from skins, they are similar to the kayaks of the Inuit. The skeleton of the Welsh Coracle is made with long ash slats stuck into the earth, forming the outlines of the future boat. Next, the hull is interlaced with wicker mats. When the hull is finished, it is turned and its form maintained by a crown of woven wicker. The Coracle is very light and can be carried on ones’ back. This type of boat is used for salmon fishing or used as appendix.
