Basket-shaped boat
This basket-shaped boat was woven using bamboo slats from a village of the coastal province of Baria-Vung-Tau in Vietnam. Its construction follows an ancient technique: A hole is dug into the ground. Then, a fabric made from woven bamboo slates is put into the hole. Stones are placed on the fabric to keep it in place and a belt closes the fabric on top. It is made watertight by applying a coating of buffalo dung. Steered by using sculls 6 or oars, it was used as tender between fishing boats. It is still widely used today.
