The old auction room

The old auction room at Douarnenez was built at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1919, it was transformed into a space to make ice, taken on board of the boats to conserve the fish. At the auction room the fishmongers attracted potential clients by calling out the best prices. Nowadays, wholesale fishmongers always buy their goods at the auction room. The one in Guilvinec is the most important in Brittany, and the prices are displayed by an electronic system.
