The Reliant
The Reliant was an English tug-boat. Powered by steam and paddlewheels, it was designed as support vessel, used to push and pull the coasters on the Manchester canal. The engine room is located under the chimney. The two anchors at the stern prevent the towing rope from getting caught on obstacles. The “fangs”, attaching the towed boat, are located at the bottom of the chimney and on the foredeck. A post, at the very top, overlooks the wheelhouse to dominate the manoeuvre. The Reliant was retired in 1967.
